As a family run, independent crash repair facility with repair centres in both Chesterfield and Rotherham, we often get asked questions about car air conditioning and its maintenance. As a service that we specialise in, one of the most common questions we are asked is ‘how often does my car’s air conditioning system need re-gassing?’ So, here’s some useful info on car air conditioning, plus the answer to the big question!
Looking After you Car’s Air Conditioning
Air conditioning is now a pretty standard feature in all new cars, thank goodness! But one thing you might not realise about it is that to keep it working properly, it needs to be maintained. A car’s air-conditioning system is actually quite complicated, with many parts involved and the use of a refrigerant gas, condenser and receiver, as well as evaporation coils and a compressor. Of course, you know that other areas of your car need to be checked and maintained, but the air conditioning system should also feature on that list.
How Often Does the Air Con Need Re-gassing?
As air conditioning re-gas specialists in Chesterfield and Rotherham, we would recommend you have your car’s air conditioning system re-gassed approximately every two years. All air conditioning systems will lose effectiveness over a period of time, so it’s important to keep on top of their maintenance. As well as the re-gas itself, a good service will include fault diagnosis and professional leak investigation. Any issues or problems you’ve noticed with your car’s air conditioning system can be addressed and rectified as part of this.
Some garages even off an antibacterial sanitiser (we do!) as standard to your air con system, meaning that when it’s turned on, the air travels through the system cleaning and killing bacteria that has built up over time, leaving a pleasant ‘new car’ fragrance.
